Chinese President Xi Jinping has begun his three-day visit to India in the western state of Gujarat, where Indian Prime Minister Naendra Modi governed for 12 years.

The president's hours-long stay saw not only key agreements signed but also relaxed protocols¹, which observers say set a positive tone for bilateral² ties.

Six fatalities⁵ were reported in Guangxi, while one death and one missing have been reported in Hainan.

The tropical storm has also collapsed⁶ 1,600 houses and closed 28 airports and ports.

Nearly six million people in south China have also been affected⁷.

Direct economic losses in Hainan and Guangdong provinces are estimated to reach nearly 7 billion yuan, approximately 1.1 billion US dollars.
