The Hong Kong government has decided¹ to suspend a formal meeting planned for later today with representatives of students participating in the Occupy Central movement.

Carrie Lam, Hong Kong chief secretary, says the call for an expanded sit-in has undermined the possibility for constructive² talks.

"After much regret, based on the public remarks made by the student representatives over these two days, especially this afternoon, I realized that the basis for a constructive dialogue between us and the students has been seriously undermined. I truly regret that we will not be able to have a meeting tomorrow which will produce any constructive outcome."

The demonstrations³ themselves have dwindled⁴ significantly in size since their peak nearly 2-weeks ago.

However, the occupation of certain areas of Hong Kong by the remaining protesters is still disrupting traffic in the city.
