And hello, everyone. I am Creshon Saunders at the CNN Center in Atlanta. Here is what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS.
A very deadly Sunday across Iraq today: four separate attacks targeting troops and civilians2 has left at least 27 people dead. In one attack, a suicide car bomb exploded at a Baghdad fuel station in a Shiite neighborhood, killing3 7 people. In another attack at a military base in Mosul, a suicide bomber4 detonated a truck loaded with explosives. That blast killed at least 10 soldiers and injured 20 others. The US military put the death toll5 higher at 12.
Pakistani President Musharraf is vowing6 to support the country's incoming government. The former army chief attended a military parade in Islamabad in civilian1 clothes. Pakistan's parliament will choose the next prime minister Monday. It's expected to be an opposition7 leader named Yousaf Raza Gilani, who was jailed after Musharraf seized power back in 1999.
It's a quasi Easter Day on the campaign trail. Senator Hillary Clinton is spending the weekend in New York with her husband Bill. She's expected to deliver a major policy address in Philadelphia tomorrow. Republican rival Senator John McCain is across the pond still on his world tour, spending the holiday in London. And Senator Barack Obama and his family are heading off on a mini-vacation today. Last week was difficult for the Illinois Senator, but it ended on a high note with a big endorsement8 from New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson.
A Texas family is lucky to be alive after an SUV crashed into their Austin home this weekend. The driver crashed into the living-room while a husband, wife and the daughter were asleep inside the house. Police say the driver blacked out and his foot got stuck on the gas pedal. No one was injured in that crash. The family says speed is a problem in their neighborhood and they want the city to do more to keep people safe.
Christians around the world are celebrating Easter today. Huge crowds turned out in the cold and rain as Pope Benedict XVI led an Easter Mass in St. Peter's Square, followed by his traditional blessing9. Some US troops in Afghanistan attended a special Easter service at their camp in Kabul this morning. The chaplain said the service would help the soldiers deal with the dangers they face everyday.
