1. Much of the Northeast is digging itself out after taking the brunt of a winter storm that’s been moving up the East Coast. Commuters in New York waded through knee-high snow on sidewalks and unplowed roads this morning.

 

2. Across the East Coast, hundreds upon hundreds of flights have been canceled. The airline officials say it will take days for some people to get rebooked. At some airports, passengers slept on cots and were provided blankets. But many travelers were not allowed to get their checked luggage.

 

3. Russia’s Mikhail Khodorkovsky was convicted today of stealing oil from his own company and laundering the proceeds. The oil tycoon once challenged the power of Vladimir Putin.

 

4. A Tel Aviv University team excavating a cave in central Israel said Monday they found teeth that are about 400,000 years old. The earliest Homo sapiens remains found until now are about half that old.
