Vasco da Gama to revamp stadium for Olympic rugby(在线收听

RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's Vasco da Gama will increase the capacity of its Sao Januario football stadium to 43,000 for the 2016 Olympic rugby sevens tournament.

The club has until Wednesday (Oct. 31) to present redevelopment plans to Rio's Olympic Organizing Committee, O Globo reported on Friday.
The 25,000-seat stadium - one of the oldest in Brazil, having been built in 1927 - had previously been left out of considerations to stage an Olympic event.
Work on the venue is not expected to begin until June next year, after the reopening of the revamped Maracana Stadium.
The Rio Games will mark the return of rugby to the Olympic program for the first time since the 1924 Paris Games.
