Chinese ambassador, companies donate cash to Myanmar quake victims(在线收听

 MANDALAY, Myanmar, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese ambassador to Myanmar Li Junhua, on behalf of the Red Cross Society of China, donated 50,000 U.S. dollars to Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Ye Myint on Saturday to help with relief efforts in the wake of strong earthquake in northern Myanmar.

Li also donated 10,000 U.S. dollars on behalf of the Chinese Embassy to assist with the reconstruction of a local school damaged in the earthquake.
"China and Myanmar are close friends," Li said, "When one was struck by natural disasters or encountered difficulties, the other would always offer his assistance and support."
Peng Huaming, Vice Chairman of Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Mandalay, donated 10,000,000 Kyats (about 12,000 U.S. dollars) at a ceremony attended by officials of Mandalay regional government and Yu Boren, Consul-General of China in Mandalay.
Meanwhile, the Upstream Ayeyawady Confluence Basin Hydropower Co, Ltd (ACHC) also donated 25 tons of relief supplies including purified drinking water and food worth 15,000,000 Kyats (about 18, 000 U.S. dollars) to the Myanmar Red Cross Societies of Mandalay.
On Nov. 14, the Southeast Asia Oil and Gas Pipeline Co, Ltd ( SEAOGP) donated 50,000 U.S. dollars to the Mandalay Regional Government.
At least 16 people were killed and 71 others injured after a 6. 8 magnitude earthquake struck Tabaitgyin in Mandalay region on Nov. 11.
