At least one home's been destroyed by a grassfire that's burning out of control in Melbourne's north. The 6,000-hectare blaze is threatening homes in Craigieburn, Wallert and Epping. Locals have been urged to stay indoors. In Victoria's west, water bombing aircraft and hundreds of firefighters are battling a second blaze in the southern Grampians.
 
The prime minister Julia Gillard is continuing to brush off the latest opinion poll, showing Labor is headed for elelction defeat. The Nielsen Poll shows the party's primary vote has dropped five points to 30%, while support for the coalition has risen to 47%. Senior ministers are despairing and acknowledge the result is a wake up call.
 
Asylum seeker children being held in detention are still harming themselves despite efforts to improve their situation. Immirgration documents revealed that in just over a year, 26 children harmed themselves while detained in two centers in Darwin.
 
And all rounder Lisa Sthalekar has announced her retirement from International cricket after helping Australia to victory at the women's World Cup. Jess Cameron was named player of the match for making 75 in the southern stars win over the West Indies. Ellyse Perry took three wickets.
