Chinese drone training in line with international law, practice

China says the training and flight of its military aircraft, including drones, over relevant areas of the East China Sea are in line with international law and practice.
Defense Ministry spokesman Geng Yansheng was responding to a question on Japan's plan to shoot down drones that infringe into its airspace.
He said if Japan took the so called moves, it would be a severe provocation to China and an act of war, and China will take resolute measures to strike back.
The spokesman said Chinese aircraft have never infringed on other countries' airspace, and China will never allow other countries' aircraft to infringe on its airspace.

New nuclear talk between UN nuclear agency, Iran raises hope

Diplomats are expressing cautious optimism over the upcoming high level meeting between Iran and the UN nuclear watchdog.
Yukiya Amano, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, would meet with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on Monday in Vienna.
This is to be followed by talks over the framework of IAEA inspections to sites, people and documents believed to be linked to possible work on atomic arms.
Vienna-based diplomats say the talk might be more positive than before, as Iran's new president has been seeking to resolve the nuclear issue.


Czech general election ends

Preliminary results from the parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic show the Social Democrats are ahead with around 21 percent of the votes.
The Social Democrats, out of power since 2006, have previously said they wanted to form a government backed by the Communists who took around 15 percent of the votes, largely in line with earlier estimates.
Official results will be announced on Wednesday.
The snap election was called after former prime minister Petr Necas resigned in June amid a corruption scandal.


Clashes between rebels, army enter second day in DR Congo

Fighting raged between soldiers and rebels in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo for a second day Saturday, just days after the latest peace talks failed.
The clashes resumed at dawn in Kibumba, some 25 kilometres north of Goma.
Meanwhile, the M23 rebel group said government troops had launched a new offensive around Mabenga, a town some 90 kilometres north of Goma.
On Monday, the rival sides both announced a halt to peace talks taking place in the Ugandan capital Kampala despite UN pressure to end the 18-month-old rebellion.


Vote counting begins in Madagascar election

Vote counting is underway in Madagascar following the long-awaited presidential election.
33 candidates were vying for the top job.
The election was held Friday to end years of political and economic turmoil since a 2009 coup.
Electoral authorities say preliminary results will be released after 10 days. Official figures will be published five days after that.
Madagascar has been in turmoil since the military-backed coup in 2009.
The country lost much-needed foreign aid and sanctions were imposed because of the coup.


Tito's widow Jovanka Broz buried next to her husband

The widow of former Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito has been honored in a state funeral in the Serbian capital.
Jovanka Broz, who died of heart failure at the age of 88 last weekend, was buried next to her husband in Belgrade.
She received full military honours in line with her status as a decorated member of the anti-Nazi partisans who fought in World War II.
Broz lived as a recluse in Belgrade after the death of her husband in 1980.


Chinese researchers develop H7N9 flu vaccine

Chinese researchers have successfully developed the vaccine for the H7N9 bird flu virus.
It's the world's first vaccine for the virus.
The vaccine is now ready for production.
More than 130 people have been infected with the H7N9 virus, with 45 fatalities.


Lippi's Guangzhou Evergrande close to first Asian title

Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande has taken a huge step toward China's first continental title in 23 years.
Marcello Lippi's side grasped two away goals in a 2-2 draw over FC Seoul in the first leg of the AFC Champions League finals in Seoul.
The second leg of the finals will be played in Guangzhou on November 9th.
Guangzhou Evergrande have already secured this year's domestic league title.


Li Na reaches WTA Championships final

China's Li Na has advanced to her first WTA Championships final in Istanbul by sweeping past 2011 winner Petra Kvitova 6-4, 6-2.
With the victory in the semifinal, Li will rise to a career-high No. 3 ranking, a jump of two places.
She will play for the title Sunday against world No. 1 Serena Williams, who managed to beat Jelena Jankovic 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
