Wang Ling: Excuse me. Are you the manager of the Eastern Hotel?
Manager: Oh, yes. Come in, please. Hot day, isn't it?
Wang Ling: Yeah. I understand you have a position here for a receptionist. Well, I'm to apply for the job.
Manager: Good, Miss. We'll have more customers in our hotel and so we want to employ someone to work as a receptionist.
Wang Ling: Do you have any other candidates?
Manager: Yes, we have three other applicants. It's going to be very competitive to get the job.
Wang Ling: Oh, yes. I know it's a big challenge. Still, I'll try.

B. What Shall I Do for the Application?

Now, Wang Ling is going to ask some questions about the requirements of the job. The manager of the hotel is quite friendly and provides her with the necessary information.
Wang Ling: Mm ... What shall I do for the application?
Manager: First of all, we need references. So you should ask two teachers to write reference letters for you.
Wang Ling: OK, I'll ask my supervisors to write them for me. And then?
Manager: You'll also need to send in your resume.
Wang Ling: I'm going to send it in tomorrow. Do I need to do something here now?
Manager: Sure. We may exchange some information first. And then you can fill out this application form and I'll put it into our file.
Wang Ling: Well, I think I can meet your requirements for the job. You know, it is not easy to get a good job today.

Passage Wang Ling's Advantages over Other Applicants
Wang Ling is going to list her advantages over other applicants. Actually she is quite hopeful. First of all, she is qualified in typing and office management. She will graduate from college next month, and her English is quite good. What's more, she once studied in a secretarial school and got a certificate. And she also won a bronze medal in a typing contest. The manager thinks she has the skills they need. He is going to put her on the short list. But he can't say "yes" at the moment, because three other applicants are coming to see him later today. And he will have to see Wang Ling's references. Anyhow, he will give her a reply within the next two or three days about the job. If Wang Ling is accepted, she will begin her work in the hotel very soon. A receptionist has to work overtime sometimes, but Wang Ling doesn't mind. She will work hard.
