 Community members are honouring the victims of the deadly shooting at Fordhood.A church just outside the Texas military base held a service today for the three soldiers killed.It's the second fatal shooting there in the past five years.Speaking on Fox news Sunday,House Homeland Security Committee chairman XX says the latest rampage shows a policy review is needed.

 
I don't think you can ever one hundred percent secure a military base from something like this happen.But I do think it requires a review,a re-analysis of the force protection policies that we have at our military installations to see how we can better secure them.President Obama is planning to attend a memorial service on Wednesday one week after the shooting.
 
 
Secretary of Defence Chuck Hago says the US is deploying two missile defence destroyers to Japan.As John Matthews reports,Hago made the pledge in Tokyo today as he tried to boost Japan's confidence in the US military commitment to its security.
 
 
Secretary Hago says the destroyers are precautionary measures to what he calls Pyongyong's pattern of provocative action,referring to its UN-resolution-violating missile launches.A combination of missile threats from North Korea,disputes with its neighbours and America's own military inaction in Crimea has Japan on edge,according to analysts.They say Tokyo needs assurances that Washington is committed to defending its long-time ally.The next leg of Secretary Hago's Asian tour takes him into China where he says he'll use the opportunity to warn Beijing against its aggressive moves in the Pacific.China and Japan are currently locked in a heated territorial dispute over resource-rich islands in the east China sea.From NPR news,I'm John Matthews in Tokyo.
 
 
A polio vaccination program is underway across the middle east.Following the outbreak of war in Syria,the paralysing disease has been found in several countries where it was once eradicated.NPR's Alex XX reports.
 
 
The UN announced that the campaign was attempted to vaccinate more than 20 million children in Syria,Iraq and Egypt in the next 5 days.Until last year,polio had been eliminated in every country except Afghanistan,Pakistan and Nigeria.Islamist militants have hindered vaccination programs in those countries.But in Syria,a Pakistani-strain of the virus was discovered in October last year.Since then,27 children have been paralysed by polio there.Then,in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad,a baby was found to be paralysed by polio last month.Officials say the vaccination drive is urgently needed to halt further spread of the virus.Alex Gordon,NPR news.Beirut.
 
 
Gas prices are up again in the US.The latest XX Survey says the price for a gallon of regular has risen 5 cents in the last two weeks.

Israeli prime minister XX is accusing Palestinian officials of violating the terms of peace negotiations as NPR's Emily Harris reports from XX efforts to extend the talks that started last summer are floundering.
 
 
XX blamed Palestinian authority president XX for the talk's breakdown.He claimed Abbas's decision to apply for membership in international treaties was a unilateral move outside the terms'agreed-on talks.Palestinian officials note that Israel had first failed to fulfill another term for negotiations,freeing 26 Palesitinian prisoners convicted of involvement in killing Israelis.Natenyahu suggested that Israel may also take what he called unilateral actions.He wasn's specific.But Israeli media reports say that if talks do not continue,Israel might withhold tax revenue Israel collects on behalf of the Palestinian authority,or perhaps stop efforts to improve cellular technology in the Palestinian territories.Emily Harris,NPR news,XX.
 
 
The international community is praising Afghans for turning out in huge numbers to vote this weekend in the face of threats from the Taliban.XX,head of the European Union's election assessment team,praised Afghan authorities for making an impressive effort to avoid election flaw.
