2. NATO leaders converged in Wales for a high-stakes summer summit where heads of state focused on the crisis in Ukraine and next steps in Afghanistan. President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron declared their nations would not be intimidated by the Islamic State group. They’ve recently beheaded two American journalists. 

 

3. The Justice Department launched an investigation into the practices of the Ferguson police department. The move follows the fatal shooting of Michael Brown last month. Attorney General Eric Holder announced the probe Thursday.

 

4. And Comedienne, Joan Rivers has died. She was 81 years old. Rivers’ daughter, Melissa says the acid-tongued comedienne died at Mount Sinai hospital in New York, surrounded by family and close friends.
