The politician

A gangster wanted to corrupt a politician. He offered a fancy diamond watch in return for a favor. The politician said, "It's bribery. I can't accept it."
The gangster said, "I'll sell you the watch for $20 dollars instead." The politician smiled a great big smile. He answered, "In that case, I'll take two."

有一个帮派分子想要贿赂一个政客。

”gangster”是指“帮派分子”,若要表示帮派集团,则用 gango politician和slatesnmn都是政治家,但前者也指贪图名利的政客,而后者也指公正有风度的政治家。

“smile ...smile”表示"做出一个…的笑容”,前一个smile 是动词,后一个是名词。great当副词时通常是表示“很好地”,但在这里是用以修饰表示“大”的形容词,起强调的作用。

6. He answered, "In that case, I'll take two."
他回答说:“如果是那样的话,我买两个。”

“in that case"表示“如果那样的话“in any case”表示 “无论如何;总之”,“in no case”表示“在任何情况下绝不”, “incase”可以表示:①以防万一(通常放在句尾);②如果···,若是(当连接词);③以防···(当连接词)。
