中文有个成语叫做“千钧一发”。顾名思义就就是指用一根头发悬起千钧重物。千钧一发用来比喻极为紧急,极其危险的关头,状况等等。So how should we put it in English? We might as well listen to the following sentence: We made it. We made this train by a hair. 我们赶上了,我们在这千钧一发之际赶上了火车。这句话中用了一个含有hair, h-a-i-r- 头发这个单词的一个短语来表述“千钧一发”,它是:by a hair.我们可以想象火车还有一秒钟就要开了,we will miss the train;但是就在这一秒钟之内,we catch the train. So , how lucky we are! 可见当时情况是多么的紧急呀!Let's look at one more sentence: He rushed up bravely by a hair. 他在这千钧一发的紧急关头冲了上去。
