Police responded to a tip-off about a cannabis operation near Tare. They found four children, each between 12 months and 9 years’ old. Two men and a woman have been arrested. Three states are facing the threat of Christmas Day bushfires. South Australia is bracing for temperatures in the low 40s and strong winds. For the first time in decades, there’s a total fire ban in southern Tasmania. And in Victoria, there’s a high fire threat with bans in the place for the /, central and southwest districts.
Two men have been sentenced to death in Thailand for murdering two British backpackers last year. The men now, Myanmar migrant workers and were found guilty of killing a 24-year-old man and raping and murdering a 23-year-old woman. The pair maintained they were tortured by police until they confessed to the crime.
And two elderly Australians and a New Zealand family had a very lucky escape after their sight-seen chopper in Fiji flipped and crashed. The helicopter on Fiji’s Treasure Island was caught by southern gust of wind while trying to land. As it toppled over, its spinning blades also came within meters of other tourists.
