2. President Barack Obama says he plans to fulfill his constitutional responsibility to nominate a successor to fill the vacancy in the supreme court, following the death of senator Justin Antonin Scalia. Obama gave a televise address Saturday night, acknowledging Scalia's death. Some republican senator's leaders say the decision to nominate his successor should wait until the next president. 

 

3. Heavy fighting continues across Syria in the rebel-held suburbs near Damascus on Sunday. Opposition activists reported army helicopters dropped barrel bombs in the area over the weekend. 

 

4. About 10 thousands skiers in Russia took parts in a nationwide Ski competition on Sunday. The annual event has no restrictions on who can ski. Competitors ranged the age from 4 to  99.
