Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to the Czech Republic and then attend the fourth Nuclear Security Summit in the U.S. capital Washington D.C. The Chinese Foreign Ministry made the announcement in a press briefing Thursday.

Assistant Minister Liu Haixing said Xi’s visit to the Czech Republic between March 28 and 30 at the invitation of President Milos Zeman will be his first visit to a Central and Eastern European country since he took office. He added that it will inject tremendous momentum in the development of bilateral ties. Xi will meet with President Zeman, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and parliament members. The two sides are also expected to sign a number of economic cooperation deals.

Vice Foreign Minister Li Baodong said Xi will attend the fourth and final Nuclear Security Summit in Washington D.C. at the invitation of U.S. President Barack Obama. Xi will give a keynote speech at the plenary session, expounding China’s stance and proposals on nuclear security issues. Xi will also have a series of bilateral meetings with other participating countries, including the U.S., to exchange ideas on international and regional issues.

“The two sides will sign intergovernmental and business cooperation deals in areas of trade, infrastructure, finance, health, aviation, technology, cultural exchanges, and so on,” said Liu Haixing, assistant minister of Chinese Foreign Ministry.

“China will also send a delegation to attend the nuclear industry summit and academic forums and share China's experience with global enterprises and scholars,” Chinese vice foreign minister Li Baodong said.
