Shanghai had a warm and sunny weekend, with pleasant temperatures and good air quality. And, since it's the time of the year when flowers blossom, many locals chose to go out, crowding local parks.

Parks oversubscribed as Spring awakens in Shanghai 

By 10 in the morning, the more than 300 parking spaces at Pudong's Binjiang Forest Park were full, and the cars were still coming in. Park managers opened three temporary parking lots in the administrative complex to expand capacity. 

"We eventually allowed 2,000 vehicles to park here. And we also set up several temporary ticket offices, so that visitors could get tickets, once they get out of their cars," said Peng Guiping, Deputy Director of Binjiang Forest Park.

"The weather is so nice, so we decided to go for an outing."

"During weekdays, we're confined to the concrete jungle. It feels very different when we see the green landscape here."

It was a similar situation in Gongqing Forest Park in Yangpu District, with park managers allocating temporary parking on three nearby streets.

In the city's easternmost Lingang New City, an annual tulip festival opened on Saturday, with more than 3.2 million individual flowers. 

"When we see the sea of flowers, it just feels stunning. It's so beautiful here,"

"We are monitoring visitor numbers throughout the day. When we find the volume is close to our capacity, we will slow down or even stop the ticket sales to ensure the park doesn't get too crowded," said Shen Qiang, Vice GM of Shanghai Flower Port.

For the several flower festivals now taking place in town, traffic police have mobilized more officers, as well as helicopters, to better manage traffic around the key visitor spots.
