Top 5 Songs for Week Ending May 7

These are the five most popular songs in the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Singles chart, for the week ending May 7, 2016.

This week's list gets two all-new titles. It starts in fifth place.

Number 5: Mike Posner " I Took A Pill in Ibiza"

Mike Posner jumps a notch to fifth place with his international comeback smash, “I Took A Pill In Ibiza.” He last tasted countdown success way back in 2010, with “Cooler Than Me” and “Please Don’t Go.” After that, Mike stepped away from the spotlight, but kept writing hits for other acts. Among his countdown successes were “Sugar” by Maroon 5, and “Boyfriend” from Justin Bieber. Mike also wrote songs for Pharrell, Wiz Khalifa, Nick Jonas, and others.

Number 4: Rihanna featuring Drake "Work"

Rihanna and Drake lose their nine-week hold on the championship, as “Work” falls to fourth place.

On April 29, Drake dropped his Views album...shortened from Views From The 6. It surpassed Beyonce’s Lemonade in initial sales, and for its first week is exclusively available on Apple Music and iTunes.

It also seems well stocked with singles:

Number 3: Drake featuring WizKid and Kyla "One Dance"

Drake posts his eighth career Top Five appearance, as “One Dance” featuring WizKid and Kyla jumps from 13th to third place.

WizKid is an international star and in February, 2014, he became the first Nigerian musician to have more than 1 million Twitter followers. Kyla Reid is an English singer who briefly stepped away from music to become a mother. Drake heard her 2009 song “Do You Mind” and sampled it in his new track.

Number 2: Lukas Graham "7 Years"

Lukas Graham is one tough cookie who’s putting up a fight. The Danish singer and his group rebound a slot to second place with “7 Years.”

Lukas tells Newsday that he wrote the song in three-and-a-half hours, but it took 18 months to finish production. Lukas said it came down to arrangements, drum placement, and ambient sounds. He says the vocals were done in one take on an $80 microphone back home in Denmark.

Number 1: Desiigner "Panda"

Up at number one, Desiigner assumes the throne with “Panda” and is in the process putting himself in the record books.

This song got the teenager signed to Kanye West’s record label, and it’s also the first chart-topping hit from a New York rapper since 2009. Jay-Z last did it with “Empire State Of Mind.”

That’s it for now, but the charts are always moving. Join us next week for more action!
