1. Donald Trump vowed to boost defense spending by tens of billions dollars. His comments came in a Philadelphia speech when he outlined his defense plans. 

2. It took an act of Congress, but World War II pilot Elaine Harmon was finally laid to rest at Arlington national cemetery. Harmon was one of the women's service pilots, the group of women flew military aircrafts on non-combat missions. Harmon's family fought to secure spot for the women at Arlington. 

3. Brazil's new president attended his first independence parade. The country is celebrating its independence in amidst its tense political crisis. The festivities come weeks after the permanent ouster of now president Dilma Rousseff. 

4. Venezuela's economic crisis is taking its toll on the nation's pets. Foster chose between feeding themselves or their beloved cats or dogs. Middle-class Venezuelans are abandoning their fellow friends in city parks and shelters. They say they just don't have enough money to feed themselves and their pets.
