Topic 1-Highlights of 2017 Government's Work Report

 

The fifth session of the 12th National People's Congress, China's top legislature, kicked off at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on March the 5th. In the 2017 government's work report at the opening of the session, Premier Li Keqiang gave an overall review of China's economic growth and social progress over the past year, and more importantly, set a tone for this year.

Topic 3-Qingdao passed the regulation on punishing school students

 

Recently, Qingdao city, in east China's Shandong province, issued a regulation, allowing its primary schools and middle schools to "punish and deter" their students. It is the first time education authorities have said explicitly that teachers can punish students. The unclear definition about the "punishment" in the regulation is confusing for teachers and parents.
