New legislation has been developed by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. The NPC Standing Committee is going to review it during its first reading in June.

Details of the proposed legislative changes have not been revealed.

However, Wang Ming, a representative of the National People's Congress, said there are various versions of national anthems online, many of which are of "low-quality playback."

At the end 2014, Chinese authorities adopted new regulations on when and where the national anthem can be performed.

Playing of the national anthem has been outlawed at commercial events, weddings and funerals.

Those same rules also require those in attendance during the playing of the anthem to be "full of energy, dress appropriately and stand still when singing the song."

"The March of the Volunteers" was adopted as China's provisional national anthem in 1949.
