South China's Guangdong Province is on high alert against the worst dengue fever outbreak in 2 decades.

Some 1,400 new cases have been reported in the past two days alone.

Nearly 7,500 people in total have been infected so far this year.

The provincial capital is the hardest hit area, with two deaths reported there.

Health authourities are warning people to pay attention if they show flu-like symptoms such as high fever, nausea and headaches, lest they miss their best treatment opportunity.

Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang has met with a delegation of Japanese business leaders to discuss ways of increasing bilateral cooperation, amid chilly ties between Asia's two biggest economies.

The delegation of the Japan-China Association on Economy and Trade consists of over 200 business people from 89 Japanese companies.

In another development, China and Japan have restarted high-level consultations on maritime affairs.

The Chinese foreign ministry says a two-day meeting has been held in east China's Qingdao city.

The meeting involves officials from the two countries' defense ministries and maritime affairs departments.
