The Chinese government is calling for a united effort from the international community to fight the Ebola virus.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has made the call while addressing a special United Nations meeting on Ebola in New York.

Wang Yi has noted in his speech that China has already provided drugs, medical equipment and other supplies to affected countries in West Africa.

The Chinese government is also working to establish an Ebola research center outside Sierra Leone's capital, Freetown.

Once in operation, the lab will be able to deliver Ebola tests within a day.
