The fresh call for EU countries to share the burden of asylum seekers came after a photograph of a three-year-old, who was found drowned on a beach in Turkey, led to an international outcry.

And while we all have our problems and we can talk the politics of any individual country, this is a human catastrophe and this particular picture may after so many deaths shock people into a sense of who we are and what we should be."
