Shares in BlueScope Steel have surged after the company said a 200 million dollar cost cutting drive will allow it to keep its port Kembla Steel Works open.

The company has also flagged an upgrade to its earnings outlook for the first half of the financial year.

Shares in BlueScope Steel jumped as much as 20 per cent in early trade but are now up 11 per cent.

OZMinerals is the next best performer.

Bank of QLD is the best of the financials.

Modest gains are being seen on the broader Australian share market.

The all ORDs is up 0.4 percent.

Wall Street rallied on friday after China announced it had cut official interest rates.

The DOW added almost one percent.

Spot gold prices are losing ground in the Asian Session as are crude oil prices and the Australian dollar is worth 72. 3 US cents.
