Rapper Kanye West leads the nominees for the music industry's Grammy Awards, announced Thursday in Los Angeles. Mike O'Sullivan reports, West earned eight nominations, and British singer Amy Winehouse earned six.

Among Kanye West's eight Grammy nods, his album "Graduation" is up for album of the year.

He will also compete for the Grammy for best rap solo performance for a track from that album, called "Stronger."

British pop-soul singer Amy Winehouse earned six nominations, including best new artist, record of the year and song of the year for her hit "Rehab," and album of the year for "Back to Black."

The American band The Foo Fighters, with five nominations, will compete for record of the year for "The Pretender."

Among the artists who gathered in Hollywood for the announcement was comedian George Lopez, who named the nominees for female pop vocal performance.

"Christina Aguilera for 'Candyman,', Feist for '1234,' Fergie for 'Big Girls Don't Cry,' Nellie Furtado for 'Say it Right,' and Amy Winehouse for 'Rehab.'"

Country singer Taylor Swift is among the nominees for best new artist.

Swift, who turns 18 this month, burst onto the music scene last year with a best-selling album, and a hit single called "Tim McGraw."

The Grammys are presented by The Recording Academy, and winners of the 50th annual Grammys will be announced in Los Angeles February 10.
