The photographer behind the lens when this controversial photo was taken says the picture has been taken out of context. I go get your hands up and you're gonna wave and you're waving goodbye to your parents. Peter Gus says he snapped the photo last spring before Baraboo High School's junior prom. The images sparked outrage from those who say the students appear to be performing a Nazi salute. Gus, a retired teacher is adamant that was not his intention. It's not an idea that came across my mind at all that there was any kind of Nazi sign. Some students who witnessed the photo say in the chaos there was confusion over the photographers directions but across the community there's anger. Last night's school board meeting residents sounded off. They need to apologize to other students in the school. With the district now investigating, a group gathered in front of the courthouse where the photo was taken to create a new image using their hands to form hearts. |
