According to CNN, an ambitious mission to send a spacecraft to Mercury is ready to launch.

The eight-million-kilometer voyage is estimated to take seven years.

But the BepiColombo spacecraft is expected to shed new light on the mysterious planet.

It is scheduled to launch on Oct. 20th from a space port in French Guiana, but the spacecraft should arrive at Mercury in December 2025.

When it reaches Mercury's orbit, the craft will leave two probes to observe the closest planet to the Sun for one year, before sending it's data back to Earth.
