Following the attacks in San Bernardino, police seized three phones.

However, that iPhone had been locked with the passcode.

The FBI took Apple to court in an attempt to force them to bypass the security on the phone, so it could be accessed.

But on the eve of the hearing, the FBI said an outside party had approached them with away to break into the phone without the need for Apple's cooperation.
