Xi pledges China's greater contribution to world peace

President Xi Jinping has urged Chinese peacekeepers to play a bigger role in defending world peace during an inspection to the Central Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army on Friday.

When talking with Chinese peacekeepers posted overseas via video link, Xi Jinping told them to strengthen safety precautions and step up COVID-19 prevention and control amid complicated circumstances.

The President also extended Spring Festival greetings to service personnel of the PLA and the People's Armed Police Force, civilian personnel posted in the military, and members of militia and reserve forces.

President Xi to attend opening of Beijing Winter Olympics

The Chinese president will attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.

Xi Jinping will also attend a reception for foreign dignitaries attending the opening of the Games, and will participate in a series of bilateral meetings between February 4 and 6.

More than 30 heads of state, heads of government, royal family members and leaders of international organizations will attend the opening ceremony and related activities.

Over 30 parliamentarians from more than 20 countries have joined a special program of CGTN to express their best wishes for the Beijing Winter Olympics.

New opinion poll shows people in China and Russia confident of bilateral ties

A new online opinion poll shows people in China and Russia are confident about the development of bilateral relations between the two countries.

The poll was conducted by the Russian-Chinese Committee for Friendship, Peace and Development, in partnership with China Media Group.

It also shows people support the two countries to conduct close coordination in international affairs and oppose foreign interference.

The poll, now in its third edition, was conducted in 11 Chinese and Russian cities in the fourth quarter of last year.

China firmly opposes malicious U.S. suppression of Chinese telecom operator

China has expressed firm opposition to the United States' repeated malicious suppression of Chinese telecom operators.

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission on Thursday revoked China Unicom America's authority to provide telecom services in the United States.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce says the move is a severe deviation from market-oriented principles, and it has damaged the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises and consumers, including those in the United States.

The ministry has urged the United States to immediately cease its unreasonable suppression of Chinese companies and treat Chinese firms investing and operating in the United States fairly.

China to deliver new batch of aid to Tonga

China plans to send a second batch of disaster-relief supplies from its southern metropolis of Guangzhou to tsunami-hit Tonga by sea on Monday.

The supplies are being assembled at the Nansha port in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province, and include donations from the Red Cross Society of China and the China-Pacific Island Countries Reserve of Emergency Supplies.

Argentina announces debt agreement with IMF

Argentina's President Alberto Fernandez announced Friday that an agreement had been reached with the International Monetary Fund to settle a debt of more than 44 billion U.S. dollars that the country incurred in mid-2018.

The agreement still needs to be approved by Argentina's Congress and the IMF Board of Directors.

Ten injured after bridge collapses in U.S. city Pittsburgh

Ten people were injured after a bridge collapsed in Pittsburgh, U.S. state of Pennsylvania, on Friday morning.

Local authorities say the injuries are all minor and not life-threatening, while three people have been transported to the hospital.

Four vehicles were on the bridge when it fell and the cause of the collapse is under investigation.
