"你丑你横穿" 简单粗暴最有效

讲解

Today's key word is Jaywalk 乱穿马路,走路不遵守交通规则

The word jaywalk is a compound word derived from the word “jay” and “walk”.

The word "Jay" has an archaic(古代的) meaning in American slang (俚语).

It means a person who chatters impertinently.

And It also means a fool or a gullible(易受骗的)person.

The term jaywalking is coined to label those people who cross a busy street

carelessly and becoming a traffic hazard.

Here's an example:

Now let's learn the word in the news.

Recently, an experiment done by Xiamen University students shows that unique warning signs seem to have mysterious effect to stop people from jaywalking.

In the experiment, students put 3 different warning signs in a green belt near an overpass one after another.

The first one says "Please walk through the overpass", the second says "It only takes 9.4 seconds more to walk through the overpass than jaywalk", the last says "Ugly people jaywalk".

The result shows that the first one almost did nothing to stop those from jaywalking, while the special "Ugly people jaywalk" sign lowered the jaywalking rate by nearly 30 percent, which is more than 3 times of the "only 9.4 second more" one.

Notes:
