1. Polls indicate President Obama’s numbers are starting to rise again. 56% of people polled in a new AP-GfK survey say they approve the president's job performance. That's up from 50% last month and the first time since Obama took office that his rating has gone up.

2. The war in Afghanistan will not be reduced to counter-terrorism campaign. That's the word from the White House. However, President Obama has not signaled whether he will send more troops to Afghanistan. The president met with House and Senate leaders just today to discuss strategy options.

3. Flying is going to cost you more over the holidays. Several major airlines add ten-dollar surcharges for especially busy days like the Sunday after Thanksgiving and January second and third. Delta, Northwest and American Airlines, just some the carriers adding the surcharge.

4. The defending champion Phillies kicked off the baseball playoff this afternoon when they take on the Rockies. The twelve bunch there took the post season when the dramatic twelve winning the Tigers last night. But so it will take the Yankees in narrowed vision series, the cardinal of the Dodgers tonight.
