A group of volunteers from Dalian, a coastal city in northeast China, are speaking up about awakening environmental awareness in the public.
Dalian is famous for its cluster of beautiful beaches. But nowadays, trash chokes the reefs, seawater and shorelines. From cigarette butts to abandoned fishing lines and beer cans, the garbage collected by the volunteers reflects society’s thoughtlessness.
The volunteers have figured out a shortcut to raise environmental awareness: educating children. As they grow up, they will make choices that help the environment.
More Chinese are monitoring air pollution levels on their cell phones before leaving the house, which shows the growing public awareness of environmental protection. And it is never too soon to move beyond awareness and into real action.
