CCTV9英语新闻：Tibet marks 57th anniversary of end of serfdom

 

Today marks the 57th anniversary of the end of serfdom in Tibet. Various activities are being held in front of the Potala Palace in Lhasa, and all across the autonomous¹ region to celebrate the historic democratic reform.

 

Chairman of the autonomous region, Losang Jamcan, has delivered a televised speech. He said Tibet has witnessed encouragingly fast economic growth and better-than-ever standards of living in recent years. By 2015, the region’s GDP exceeded 100 billion yuan, an increase of 11 percent. Tibet has seen double-digit growth for 23 consecutive² years. The per capita disposable income of rural residents is just over 8,200 yuan.
