Israeli police say two car bombs have went off Monday in a town near Tel Aviv, but there were no serious 1)injuries. The bombings came a day after five Palestinians were killed by the Israeli military in the West Bank.
The car bombs 2)exploded in the central Israeli town of Yehud, a few kilometers from Ben Gurion international airport near Tel Aviv.
The 3)blasts destroyed a number of cars, and some residents were taken to the hospital and treated for shock.
The radial Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine 4)claimed 5)responsibility for the bombings.
The explosions came a day after five Palestinians were killed in two separate incidents in the West Bank.
Late Sunday Palestinian officials say three members of the 6)militant Islamic Jihad group were killed in a 7)missile attack by an Israeli combat helicopter.
The men were riding in a car near the northern West Bank town of Jenin when it was destroyed.
Israeli officials say the car was packed with explosives and the men were on their way to carry out a terrorist attack.
One of the men, Mohammed Besharat, was on Israel's most-wanted list of militants1 who have 8)allegedly planned terrorist attacks against Israelis.
On Monday thousands of people attended the 9)funerals for the men and 10)vowed they would no longer observe the 11)truce2.
Palestinian officials say Israel is carrying out a policy of 12)assassinations against Islamic militants. The Israeli military had no official comment on the incident.
Earlier, Israeli soldiers killed two members of the Islamic group Hamas. The army says the men were preparing a terrorist attack.
The latest violence is threatening a U.S. brokered3 cease-fire designed to end more than nine-months of Israeli-Palestinian bloodshed.
An adviser4 to Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, Nabil Abu Rudeinah, told reporters if Israel continues its policy of assassinating5 Palestinian militants it will cause the truce to collapse6.
