NANTES, France, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Former France and Arsenal1 striker Sylvain Wiltord announced his retirement2 from football on Monday.
Wiltord began his career at Breton club Rennes (1993-1997) before spending three fruitful seasons at Bordeaux.
It was with Bordeaux that he won a first French league title, in 1999 when he also finished the league's top scorer on 22 goals.
That feat3 helped in a subsequent big-money move to Arsenal, where he would spend four seasons. After his first season in London, Wiltord won a Euro 2000 winners' medal with France.
Wiltord helped Arsenal to league titles in 2002 and 2004, but returned home at the end of the 2004 season to sign for French giants Lyon, with whom he won the league title in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
After a three-year spell at Lyon Wiltord returned to Rennes ( 2007-2009), before heading south for a brief spell with Marseille in 2009.
Another brief spell, this time with eastern club Metz, followed before Wiltord signed with second division Nantes for what would be his final professional season.
