LOS ANGELES, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of fans swarmed1 Hollywood on Tuesday as legendary2 guitarist Slash3 received a star on the Walk of Fame, which seemed fitting for the rock music icon4 who first started playing only 100 yards away.
"I'm such a part of this scenery. I went to school here, and started playing guitar here, literally5 100 yards down the street," Slash said at the unveiling of his star, the 2,473th on the Walk of Fame.
"I got a very techni-color education from here. I've been a part of Hollywood fabric6 for a long time, to actually be appreciated by the city of Hollywood, is a huge, huge honor," he said.
The British-American rocker has sold nearly 100 million albums as a member of various groups, including Guns N' Roses, Slash's Snakepit and Velvet7 Revolver.
In 2010, Slash released his first eponymous solo album, renowned8 as a roster9 of all-star guest musicians.
With a Grammy Award for "Best Hard Rock Performance," seven Grammy nominations10, and countless11 other acknowledgements, Slash was ranked only after Jimi Hendrix among "the Ten Best Electric Guitar Players of All-Time" by Time magazine.
The rock star has performed for both royalty12 and heads of states, including the Queen of England and former U.S. President Bill Clinton. He has recorded and shared the stage with luminaries13 as diverse as Michael Jackson, Bob Dylan, James Brown and Ray Charles.
After the Walk of Fame ceremony, Slash performed at a private acoustic14 show at Hard Rock Cafe. His fans were overwhelmed by the opportunity to watch their rock hero's show so closely.
"I've been a Gun N' Roses' fan since my senior year in high school. It was 1988. It became really popular throughout college, so I've been a huge fan," said Justice, a Slash fan who even impersonated him at the site.
