 The New South Wales State Opposition¹ is pushing for a parliamentary inquiry² into allegations for the tape made by murdered businessman Michael McGurk implicates³ Labor⁴ MPs in a bribery⁵ scandal. However, former ALP powerbroker Graham Richardson says he’s heard the tape and the parts for the supposed to review the alleged⁶ bribery are inaudible. Mr. McGurk was murdered last week.

 In another sign that the financial crisis is fading, there’s been an increase in the number of job advertisements. The Olivier Job Index found advertised positions went up almost 2.5% in August, that’s the biggest jump since May last year.  

Australia’s new top police officer will be sworn in at Parliament House in Canberra today. Tony Negus is taking over the reign⁷ from outgoing commissioner⁸ Mick Keelty who retired⁹ last week. He will take over a force with more than 6,500  employees, and a budget of more than one billion dollars. 

And 2005 US Open Champion Kim Clijsters has continued her successful return to tennis with a 3-set win over America’s third seed Venus Williams. In the Men’s scores, Spain’s Rafael Nadal is through to the fourth ground. And former world NO.1 Juan Carlos Ferrero had a win over ninth seed Giles Simon.
