Police in Rio de Janeiro have arrested Brazilian man, Mario Marcelo Santoro over the alleged¹ murder of his ex-girlfriend, Sydney woman Cecilia Haddad. Police in Brazil issued an arrest warrant for the 40 year old yesterday following high level negotiations². Santoro's accused of strangling his ex-girlfriend to death before dumping her body in the lane cover river in late April.

High level talks between the US and North Korea over the country's dismantling³ of its nuclear program have hit a snag. Pyongyang says a visit by US secretary of state Mike Pompeo had been "regrettable" and accused Washington of making "gangster-like" demands. The statement contradicts the version of events given by Mr Pompeo who says progress was made during his two-day visit.
