US president Donald Trump¹ has delivered a blow to his UK host Theresa May by condemning² her approach to Brexit. In a newspaper interview, Mr Trump says the PM's plan for Brexit will kill any prospect³ of a future trade deal with the United States. The president also praises Boris Johnson, saying the former foreign secretary would be a great prime minister.

Syrian government forces are retaking control of the rebel-held part of Deraa, the birthplace of the revolt against president Bashar al Assad. State media reports say troops accompanied by Russian military police have entered the area and raised the national flag. Rebels there have reportedly agreed to surrender in return for an amnesty or safe passage to the rebel-held north.
