The Nationals leader Michael McCormack has dismissed suggestions that his hold on the party's top job is under threat. Mr McCormack is under pressure due to concerns about his performance since taking over from Barnaby Joyce earlier this year. The leader's detractors claim he's failed to cut through with voters, and doesn't muscle up to the Liberal party enough.

It's been revealed a senior Saudi government official named as a key suspect in the disappearance¹ and suspected murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi studied in Australia. Dr Salah Tubaigy was identified by Turkish authorities as one of 15 men present in the Saudi consulate² in Istanbul when Mr Khashoggi is believed to have been killed. In 2015, Mr Tubaigy completed a three-month placement at the Victorian Institute of Forensic³ Medicine. He was sponsored by the Saudi government.

Liberal candidate for Wentworth Dave Sharma has condemned⁴ an anonymous⁵ email, which falsely claims his opponent Kerryn Phelps is p?ulling out of the by-election because she has HIV. The email was sent to hundreds of people from a bogus address on Sunday and urges residents to instead vote for Dave Sharma. Dr Phelps says it's part of a dirty campaign being waged against her.
