A school in southwestern Germany was the site of a deadly shooting rampage earlier today. Police say 17-year-old Tim Kretschmer, a former student, opened fire at the school in Winneden. Police say he killed at least 13 people inside that school and three in other locations. He was shot and killed by police in a nearby town.
Authorities are trying to figure out the motive1 for a gunman here in the US, who opened fire on family members and apparent strangers. Police say Michael McLendon killed at least 11 people including the wife and daughter of an Alabama deputy before killing2 himself. "She was a super mom, my baby girl Corrine Grace, the sweetest thing in the world. Um, I don't even know how to comprehend what's going on."

President Obama is expected to lay out guidelines this morning to overhaul3 earmarks. Those are the pet projects lawmakers attach to spending bills. That announcement comes one day after the Senate passed the spending bill to keep the government operating this year. That bill contains thousands of earmarks. White House official say Mr. Obama will sign the bill to keep key government agencies' funding.

The Cable Channel Nickelodeon says it won't remove singer Chris Brown as a nominee5 for the Kids' Choice Awards . Brown is nominated for favorite male singer and favorite song. Nickelodeon says despite hundreds of protest calls, Brown was nominated by kids several months ago.
