It’s been 16 months since the US firstly announced to impose trade tariffs2 on China, and talks between the countries have yet to produce an agreement.
As the trade negotiation3 with China has yet been settled, the Trump4 administration holds its America First trade policy and continues imposing5 tariff1 on other countries, such as Japan, Germany, France, India, and Turkey. Many of those nations have responded with retaliatory6 tariffs on the U.S.
But are protectionism and unilateralism the only strategy for solving global trade dispute? What can China do to protect its own interests and the multilateral free trade system?
To better understand, CRI reporter Xu Yawen had a talk with Bai Chong-En, Dean of School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University.
