Sarah liked Patty. She wanted to be friends.

莎拉喜欢派蒂。她想和她当朋友。

But there was¹ a problem². Sarah and Patty sat³ next to each other in class.

可是有个问题存在。莎拉和派蒂在教室里坐隔壁。

For a while⁴, things were great. Working together was easy.

They talked before and after class.

Then one day, Patty borrowed⁵ Sarah's ruler. She got⁶ it very dirty.

Then she borrowed Sarah's eraser. Patty used almost¹⁰ all of the eraser.

Later¹¹, Patty borrowed a blue pen. She wanted to use it all day.

后来，派蒂又借了一枝蓝笔。她想要借用一整天。

But in the afternoon, Sarah watched Patty put the pen in her mouth. It was terrible¹²!

可是莎拉下午看见派蒂把那枝笔含在嘴里咬。真是太糟了！

Sarah really liked her pen, and now Patty was chewing¹³ on it!

莎拉非常喜欢她的钢笔，结果派蒂竟然放在嘴里咬！

Sarah wanted to say something.

But, she didn't know how to start the conversation¹⁴. Patty might¹⁵ get angry.

Sarah didn't understand. Why was Patty borrowing¹⁶ so many things?
