The convenience of nearly instantaneous information can easily become a crutch¹. If we're not knowledgeable² about certain subjects such as physics, politics, or music we know we can look it up online. That's not necessarily a negative.

 

What's problematic is that we often look up and recite the information, but don't actually absorb it. It may seem daunting³, but this is arguably the easiest skill to revitalize.

 

Whenever you reference an unfamiliar⁴ subject take time to actually learn the information.

 

1 crutch   

n.T字形拐杖；支持，依靠，精神支柱

2 knowledgeable

• He made some knowledgeable remarks at the meeting.他在会上的发言颇有见地。

3 daunting   

adj.使人畏缩的

• They were faced with the daunting task of restoring the house.他们面临着修复房子的艰巨任务。
• Starting a new job can be a daunting prospect.开始一项新工作有时会让人望而却步。

4 unfamiliar   

adj.陌生的，不熟悉的

参考例句：

• I am unfamiliar with the place and the people here.我在这儿人地生疏。
• The man seemed unfamiliar to me.这人很面生。
