Parttime Work

1--How many hours a week are you working at the
   moment?
2--Erm--well I'm working Monday to Friday...
   plus²...
1---Is it...are you working more at the moment?
2--Yes, I'm doing three, well I usually do three
   evenings a week, but the evenings, erm. that
   I'm working are usually a little bit³ longer
   than any other time of the year, and I will
   do the occasional⁴ Saturday, 'cause⁵ obviously
   Saturday's a popular⁶ day.

1）occasional：偶尔的，非经常的。注意这句话中文
与英文的说法区别很大。
2）'cause=because
3）a popular day：原义指星期六是假日，顾客较多，
因而商店，餐馆也需打工的学生干活。译文与原文略有
不同。

1--目前,你一个星期工作多少个小时?
2--哦,我从星期一到星期五工作,加上...
1--是吗?你目前工作时间较多吧?
2--是的,我现在一个星期有三个晚上打工.我通常
也是一星期三个晚上打工。不过眼下晚上工作的
时间比其它季节晚上时间要长些。偶尔星期六也
干活，因为显然星期六工作好找。

1 dialogue   

n.对话；vi.对话；vt.用对话表达

参考例句：

• Practise the dialogue in pairs.两人一组练习对话。
• The dialogue went on until nine o'clock.谈话一直到九点。

2 plus   

n.加号，正号；adj.超过的，正的；prep.加上

参考例句：

• Four plus five is nine.四加五等于九。
• All the children here are 12 plus.这里所有的孩子都大于十二岁。

3 bit   

n.一点儿，少量；钻头；马嚼子；辅币，位，比特(二进位制信息单位)；v.控制

参考例句：

• I'm just going out for a bit.我正打算出去一会儿。
• When did you change the bit?什么时候换的钻头？

4 occasional   

adj.偶尔的；偶然的；不经常的

参考例句：

• That sort of thing is quite occasional and not regular.那种事十分偶然，没有规律。
• We must figure in occasional expenses in the budget.我们必须在预算中把临时费用算计在内。

5 cause   

pron.造成，使发生

参考例句：

• Bad teeth often cause pain.坏牙常引起疼痛。
• Unhappiness is the root cause of his illness.不开心是他生病的根源。

6 popular   

adj.受欢迎的；流行的；通俗的

参考例句：

• " Mary " is a very popular name for a girl.“ 玛丽 ”是个很常见的女孩名字。
• He likes to play football and to sing popular songs.他喜欢踢足球和唱流行歌曲。
