President Obama left no doubt who was behind the email hacking¹ of the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, telling reporters he confronted Russian President Vladimir Putin about it in September.

(President Obama) “And tell him to cut it out and there would be serious consequences if he didn’t. And in fact we didn’t see further tampering² of the election process.”

In a year-end news conference, the President stopped short of saying the leaked emails tipped the scales for President-elect Trump³, adding there is no evidence of tampering with ballots⁴ or voting machines.
