There's the Snares¹ penguins².

Shearwaters come, too.

This is an excellent place for them to dig their nesting burrows³, for no predators⁴ have managed to get here.

Soon the island is crowded with birds.

Every one of them eager to make the most of the short breeding season.

A male Buller's albatross waits for his mate.
