One Side of the Case A judge asked our group of potential jurors whether anyone should be excused, and one man raised his hand. "I can't hear out of my left ear," the man told the judge.

 

"Can you hear out of your right ear?" the judge asked. The man nodded his head. 　　

 

"You'll be allowed to serve on the jury," the judge declared. "We only listen to one side of the case at a time."

1.potential替补的。也可以作名词使用：This new invention has an enormous sales potential.这项新发明有巨大的销售潜力。

 

2.excuse使免除。也有“辩解”的意思：He who excuses himself exposes himself.越为自己辩解的人越暴露自己的错误。
