贝斯：我今天在店里碰到一个女人，我告诉她我嫁给了你，她说你杀了玛莎·胡博。

保罗：我不是让你别理会这些流言蜚语吗？

Paul:Something wrong?

Beth: No.

Paul:You sure? You seem like you were a million miles away while we were making love.

Beth:Well...It's just that...

Paul:Talk to me.

Beth:I met a woman today a-at the store, and when I told her who I was married to...She said you killed Martha Huber.

Paul:What have I told you about idle gossip?

Beth:She said you had a motive¹. Martha was blackmailing² your wife.

Paul:This is ridiculous.

Beth:You are a passionate³ man. I know that firsthand, but sometimes our emotions can make us do crazy things. If Martha was responsible for Mary Alice's suicide --

Paul:Stop it. Do you honestly believe that I am capable of killing⁴ another person?

Beth:Martha's sister sure thinks you are.

Paul:Well, her opinion doesn't matter.

Beth:Why not?

Paul:Everybody knows Felicia Tillman is crazy. Martha said to my wife that she couldn't trust a thing that her sister said due to her severe mental problems.

Beth:Really?

Paul:You're surprised? The woman cut off her own fingers to frame me for murder. Who does that?

Beth:That's a good point.

贝斯：你是个热情的人，这个我非常清楚。但是有时候一时冲动，会让我们做出疯狂的举动。如果玛莎是导致玛丽·艾莉丝自杀的罪魁祸首...

保罗：够了！你真的认为我会去伤人性命吗？

贝斯：玛莎的姐姐显然是这么认为的。

保罗：她的想法不重要。

贝斯：为什么？

保罗：谁都知道菲丽莎·蒂尔曼是个疯子，玛莎和我的前妻说过，她姐姐说的话，她一个字也不信，因为她姐姐有严重的心理问题。

贝斯：真的吗？

1 motive
